Van Hire Knowhow

Which parts of a hire van does Collision Damage Waiver cover?

Crashed Van

When you hire a van, Collision Damage Waiver (CDW) is usually included in the deal. Discover how much of the van is covered by Collision Damage Waiver (clue: surprisingly little).

What is covered by Collision Damage Waiver?

CDW covers the bodywork of the van which is essentially where it is painted: the doors, bonnet, back, side panels and wing mirror housings.

What is not covered by Collision Damage Waiver?

As well as the roof of the van (in most cases), CDW does not cover:

  • Glass (all windows, lights and mirrors)
  • Tyres & wheels
  • Flat battery
  • Interior trim (seats, carpet, and all interior materials)
  • Undercarriage
  • Your belongings (anything left in the van, including the boot and glovebox)
  • Lost keys
  • Gears/transmission

Because of all these limitations, some people choose to buy additional insurance. To learn more about hire van insurance, see Insuring your rental.
